2382 financing contracts, totalling approximately 4.558 billion euros, were signed until 9 December, under Regio – the Regional Operational Programme (ROP), carried out by the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MRDT). So far, 426 projects, worth 257 million euros, were finalised at the level of the country, and non-reimbursable funds in the amount of approximately 2.891 billion euros were allocated from the European Regional Development Fund.

The data was made public at the Conference to present the Annual Implementation Report 2010 of the Regional Operational Programme, organised by the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism, today, 13 December. The event was attended by representatives of the Managing Authority for the ROP, intermediate bodies, public authorities, civil society members, beneficiaries, members of the network of communicators etc.

"We are the ministry with the highest rate of contracting European funds and a significant contribution to increasing the level of absorption at the level of the country. This is seen not only in numbers. We have project sites in every corner of Romania, everywhere there are works on the development of the infrastructure that is so necessary. When we talk about the 2.891 billion euros in non-reimbursable funds already brought to Romania, and on the 426 finalised projects, we talk about things you see around us. This is what the Regional Operational Programme means," said Razvan Murgeanu, State Secretary at the MRDT.

Detailed information about the implementation status of the Regional Operational Programme until 9 December can be found online on the website of the MRDT (http://www.mdrt.ro/dezvoltare-regionala/programul-operational-regional-2007-2013/-3780).

The Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism, as Managing Authority of ROP, is the ministry with the highest rate of contracting the European funds it manages and thus contributes to increase in the level of absorption of the funds allocated by the European Union to Romania for the financial programming period 2007-2013.

The Regional Operational Programme was launched on 13 July 2007 and the documents related to the implementation of the projects were finalised in the same year. The overall objective of the ROP consists in supporting and promoting sustainable local development, both economically and socially, in all Romania`s regions, by improving the infrastructure conditions and the business environment, which support economic growth.
