Construction employers made available for MRDT 375 machines to remove snow from isolated localities

Tuesday, 14 February 2012

Construction employers responded to the call launched last night, 13 February, by the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MRDT) and, until now, have made available 375 pieces of equipment (dozer-excavators, graders, Wola loaders etc.) in 36 counties, to help snow removal in localities and roads isolated because heavy snowfall.

The MRDT winter command centres will inform the county prefectures about the total number of equipment with which construction employers have expressed willingness to intervene in each county separately.

"We thank all those in the construction industry who responded so promptly to our call. Within a few hours, we managed to collect 375 machines in almost all the counties of the country, and offers of help continue to arrive at the headquarters of the ministry. Construction employers, just like tourism federations, have shown an extraordinary solidarity and understood that the machines that stay not used in their parking lots can help save the lives of people who were so hard tried this winter. The Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism continues to offer its whole support to remove snow from the isolated localities and to deliver food and water for victims," said the Minister of Regional Development and Tourism, Cristian Petrescu.

The Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism has organised a special winter command centre to come to the help of the people affected by the massive snowfalls. On Saturday, 11 February, the MRDT started a campaign to help the victims and called on the representatives of the tourism industry to donate food and essentials. The first humanitary convoy was distributed on Saturday afternoon to the victims from the locality of Sageata (Buzau county) and other aid convoys are on the way. Employers' federations, individual workers in tourism, representatives of other companies and ordinary people who want to further donate products, as well as the construction employers who can provide snow removal equipment are asked to contact the MRDT winter command centre on the emergency number 0800.86.82.82.
