Following the release in the press of incomplete information referring to a tourism marketing action carried out by the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MRDT), for a correct and complete public information, we are transmitting the following clarification

Romanian Carpathians - promoted in U.S.A., Canada and 5 other countries

In March, the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism organises a visit to Romania of a production team that intends to carry out the necessary documentation and filming to make a film to promote Romania as a winter tourism destination.

The team, which works for the American video production studio Warren Miller Entertainment, will spend two weeks in Romania. During this period, the programme includes visits to tourism destinations and objectives in the Romanian Carpathians (Bucegi Mountains, Postavarul Mountains and Fagaras Mountains), as well as Sinaia, Brasov, Poiana Brasov, Peles Castle, Azuga, Balea Lake. At the same time, the visit coincides with the finalisation of tourism infrastructure investments in the Prahova Valley, destined for the organisation, in 2013, of the winter edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival - FOTE 2013. Therefore, the presence of the production team is an excellent opportunity to get media attention, at international level, on the fact that Romania will host FOTE 2013.

Subsequent to the visit, the team will produce a film promoting mountain and winter tourism in Romania, which, from the autumn of 2012, will be distributed in cinema halls in 80 metropolitan areas of the USA and 88 cities in Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Australia and New Zealand. The film will also be broadcast on television and the internet.

Warren Miller Entertainment is a studio renowned for producing and distributing films for lovers of ski and snowboard, of winter and adventure tourism in North America. For 62 years, at the beginning of each cold season, has been presenting a new destination for winter sports.

Being a tourism marketing action, complementary to other projects run by the MRDT, and aiming to promote Romania as a tourism destination in target markets, the related costs, estimated at maximum 80,998 lei without VAT, are borne by the ministry.

The procedure of procurement of services related to the organisation of the visit is under development, at present, at the MRDT level.
