
This year’s first issue of the euROpeanul - came out on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. A bimonthly information publication edited by the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Housing, the euROpeanul is now in its third year and has imposed itself as a particularly useful guide for anyone interested to learn how structural funds can be accessed and what their utilization can yield. The important role it plays by providing info about the European funds available for Romania has also been acknowledged by the “Diploma of Excellence in popularizing, managing and preparing programmes co-financed from European funds, - for the best journalism involved in the European information campaign,” awarded by EU-RO Clearing Funds in 2007.
With a circulation of 50,000 copies, the euROpeanul is distributed free of charge in railway stations, travel agencies, InterCity trains, in subway stations, at the Henri Coanda Airport, chambers of commerce and industry, prefect’s offices, county councils, the main university centres in Romania, and at counselling offices for citizens. By the end of the year, 8 national issues and 4 regional issues are to be published.

Gabriel Giurgiu (editor in chief), Alexandru Lazescu, Mircea Vasilescu, Luca Niculescu and other well known Romanian journalists will bring European information closer to the citizen, explaining in an accessible language the implications of Romania’s accesion to the European Union. The articles tackle both subjects of general interest for the large public and specialized sections for the paper’s distinct target groups: the local public administration, educational establishments, health care units and the business environment. Interviews with outstanding Romanian and foreign personalities will be published alongside articles -. of the editorial team trying to explain complex notions, more and more present in the everyday language of Romanians
And since the euROpeanul aims to be as close as possible to citizens and to serve them, a postal address and an e-mail address are available for readers (europeanul@chelgate.ro). The on-line variant, available at www.europeanul.ro, allows posting of comments on the articles.
